The VRML Consortium is looking for textures. Specifically, VRMLC’s Universal Media Element Library Working Group (UMEL WG) has issued an open call to developers for textures to be included in a forthcoming public domain library. By keeping a small library of media elements resident on ordinary internet client computers, UMEL WG hopes to improve the apearance of VRML worlds while at the same time reducing network download times. All VRML developers will be able to incorporate these textures, sounds and objects into their work for deployment across a range of platforms. Hence the call for texture submissions in six categories: backgrounds, creatures, finishes, materials, nature and urban. Content developers who want their textures immortalized for the common good should visit http://www.vrml.org/WorkingGroups/vrml- umel/.
