Princeton, New Jersey-based sound compression company Voxware Inc has licensed its speech and sound codec compression and decompression algorithms to Oracle Corp for use in Oracle’s multimedia Video Server product. Oracle will be using the MetaVoice AC8, AC10, AC16, and A24 algorithms and MetaSound RT 24 and RT29 algorithms. Voxware has previously licensed its codecs to customers including Netscape Communication Corp, Microsoft Corp and IBM Corp. Voxware has also announced a software development kit for use in voice over internet Protocol networks. The kit, designed to improve the quality of service in notoriously unreliable voice over IP systems, includes a new codec which switches between 3.2Kbps and 6.4Kbpos compression modes depending on network congestion. There is also a Quality of Transmission toolkit. The kit will be bundled and marketed at IP telephony vendors and developers as VIPSuite, and will be shipped in November for client and telephone gateway servers, and later for various digital signal processing and embedded RISC chips.
