This Volga school internet initiative is part of a national program that aims to connect 52,940 Russian educational institutions to the internet.
The project’s contractor is RTCOMM, which will provide internet access until the end of 2007. VolgaTelecom will deliver the service at a rate of at least 128Kbps from educational institutions to the access nodes.
VolgaTelecom is the largest telecommunication company of the Volga region providing telephony, cellular communication, internet, data transfer, TV and radio broadcasting services. The company operates in 11 regions of the Volga federal district. Its installed capacity is about five million numbers, with about 700,000 internet subscribers.
