GSM 1900 network equipment is to be set up in New Orleans and Virginia, along with the installation of the infrastructure for EDGE (Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution) in some VoiceStream markets. The new infrastructure will provide for the next generation of voice and data services.
The system will also support features such as mobile Virtual Private Network (VPN) and mobile gaming and entertainment applications, and they aim to sustain what they call a feature-rich network.
It has been estimated that the contract could be worth more than $300 million over the next three years.
