Vodafone Group Plc said yesterday that its overall subscriber base grew by over 20% in the UK in 1996, with the addition of more than 468,000 net new subscribers, and that at year-end, its total UK subscriber base was more than 2.8m, with over 1.22m on the digital network; in the October to December quarter, Vodafone added 146,000 net new subscribers in the UK, after connecting some 332,000 subscribers and losing a lot; in the same quarter of 1995 the figures were 286,000 gross, 143,000 net; inter- nationally, Vodafone’s share of net new subscribers rose by 148,000 and almost doubled to 970,000; it also confirmed that overseas businesses moved into profit for the first time, with particularly strong per- formances reported from the French, Greek and South African ventures.
