VocalTec Communications, a provider of multimedia and voice-over-IP offerings for communication service providers, said that it has been selected by Far East Telecom as a provider for its core Class-5 and Class-4 VoIP network. The project will be implemented in conjunction with Inline Telecom, a systems integrator in Russia.

The company said that the Far East Telecom is transforming its network to a core IP network. This deployment represents the first stage of Far East Telecom’s migration plan, including the deployment of VocalTec’s Essentra Class-5 and Class-4 VoIP network across five distributed locations with initial support for subscribers.

VocalTec said that the project will provide for a transition and will allow Far East Telecom to offer a range of subscriber services, as well as managing the interconnection to its existing traditional telephony network.

According to VocalTec, its SIP-based VoIP offering is designed to support Far East Telecom’s future network evolution to subscribers, which will enable greater capacities and efficiencies. VocalTec’s certification by the Russian Ministry of Communications further supports Far East Telecom’s requirements and service needs.

Alexander Pototsky, CTO of Far East Telecom, said: VocalTec is a respected provider of VoIP solutions in Russia and we are delighted to partner with VocalTec and value its extensive experience in building VoIP networks as well as supporting our deployment plans and schedules. VocalTec’s VoIP solutions will allow us to quickly offer new services while benefiting from lower infrastructure costs. This will allow us to stay ahead of our competition.
