Nissho Iwai Corp, a leading Japanese trading house, and its subsidiary Nissho Electronics Corp have started selling the internet telephony server manufactured by Israeli firm VocalTec Communications Ltd (CI No 3,199), according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The Telephony Gateway 3.0 is believed to hold a 79% share of the global market for such servers. It’s sold in a set together with a system enabling companies to charge users and control calls, and is targeted primarily at companies with big international phone bills or by companies who want to set up internet phone services. A server with two lines will start at 1.5m yen ($12,500). The system for controlling calls and charges sells for between 300,000 yen ($2,500) and 3m yen ($25,000). Several providers have already decided to adopt the server, Nissho said.
