VMware Q2 revenue up 48% to $674m

Expects net revenue to be in the range of $680m to $705m for Q3 2010

VMware has reported total net revenue of $673.9m for the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 48% compared to $455.6m for the same period last year.

Revenue from license grew by 42% year-over-year to $323.6m, while revenues from services grew 54% to $350.2m.

The company posted an operating income of $101.1m for the second quarter of 2010, compared to $37.9m for the same period last year.

For the second quarter ended June 30, 2010, the company posted net income of $74.5m, an increase of 129%, compared to a net income of $32.5m for the same quarter a year ago.

Mark Peek, chief financial officer at VMware, said: "Our strong second quarter results were driven by demand across all products and regions.

"For the third quarter, we expect license revenues to be flat sequentially and total revenues to increase to a range of $680 and $705 million. For our 2010 annual revenues, we are raising our guidance to be in the range of $2.725 and $2.8 billion, an increase of 35% to 38% from 2009."
