VMware has opened a second UK data centre to boost its hybrid cloud business in Europe.
The Chessington data centre follows one in Slough opened in February, which supported the launch of the firm’s vCloud Hybrid Service, which now also features disaster recovery and data protection services.
VMware now has 800 accredited vCloud partners and hopes to increase the number of customers using the tool, citing a poll in which 65% of 200 enterprise customers said hybrid cloud could help them achieve business goals faster by moving applications and workloads between private and public clouds.
Gavin Jackson, VP of EMEA cloud services, said: "Now they have seen what VMware vCloud Hybrid Service can enable, they’re turning to it to power their strategic transformation programmes.
"It’s driving real change in the business and enabling organisations to consume services in a totally new way – all based on a trusted and secure VMware infrastructure in which they have confidence."
The company claimed last month that public clouds are "modern silos", because one provider generally doesn’t meet all one company’s needs.
The news comes after VMware enabled channel partners to sell its NSX software-defined network technology in June.
