VMware is set to collaborate with the first $1bn Internet of Things (IoT) company, Jasper, to help enterprises monitor, manage and secure connected devices in the workplace.
The firms will combine VMware’s AirWatch mobility management technology with the Jasper Control Center, a cloud-based platform that enables organisations to manage IoT deployments.
The turnkey solution is already deeply integrated with mobile operators’ worldwide networks, while AirWatch covers email, application, content and browser management solutions, a combination the firms hope will appeal to customers of both.
Arindam Sen, senior VP of employee experience at Schneider Electric, said: "As a customer of both Jasper and AirWatch, this bridging of technologies will provide real-time, practical management capabilities for Schneider Electric’s investments in the Internet of Things."
And Sanjay Poonen, executive VP for end-user computing at VMware, believes the technology is now there for firms to adopt IoT, giving VMware and Jasper the opportunity to muscle in on the management side of things.
He said: "The combination of widespread connectivity, lower cost sensors, and industry standards creates the conditions for the enterprise to adopt and benefit from IoT at scale."
Jasper CEO Jahangir Mohammed added: "The combination of mobile services management by Jasper and device management from AirWatch addresses the tremendous need across enterprises for an integrated IoT/EMM solution.
