San Jose, California-based VLSI Technology Inc is teaming with Weitek Corp to develop and market a family of local bus graphical user interface controllers for Microsoft Corp Windows and its applications in the desktop and portable personal computer markets: the two will cross-licence complementary technolgies to provide chip sets based on tightly integrated user interface controllers with CPU direct local bus architecture using Weitek’s controllers rather than the CPU to execute operations such as Bit Block Transfers and LineDraw, producing dramatic performance gains while remaining cost efficient; initial products are expected to be marketed by late this year.
