Vision Group Plc has announced its first deal as an original equipment manufacturer of digital colour CMOS cameras. The Edinburgh company has others in the pipeline, but Gestetner Holdings Plc’s Vivitar photographic division was the first to go public, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The camera, which is based on Vision’s own chip technology, sits on top of the monitor and plugs into the parallel printer port, using the computer’s power supply. Vivitar intends to enter the personal videoconferencing market with the camera, which goes into production in April. Vision is also providing software for the camera, written by an unnamed third party. It has already won deals for its black and white digital cameras. Vision would not say how much the deal was worth, but its shares rose 30 pence to a new high of 215 pence late yesterday, against the flotation price of 97 pence in April (CI No 2,639).
