In its first quarter as a public company application integration company Vitria Technology Inc reported a third-quarter net loss of $4.3m including charges for stock compensation plans, up from a loss of $2.5m last time on revenue up 283% at $7.8m over $2.0m last time. At the nine month mark the net loss was $10.2m compared with $6.8m on revenue of $19.3m compared with $3.7m. New business was 60% in the quarter, 40% sales to existing customers.
Vitria says that unlike most application integration companies it does very little work connecting ERP applications. It can only count three customers using its BusinessWare suite to do ERP integration. But it does expect its exposure to ERP to grow as telecoms companies, which are the majority of its business, begin to connect their CRM applications to other data stores. Vitria says it works most often with Vantive, Clarify, Siebel and Kenan applications. Nortel’s acquisition of Clarify opens an opportunity to get its foot in that camp as Clarify recently became a Vitria reseller.
