Visto seeks injunction of Good Technology email service

Mobile push email provider Visto Corp yesterday said it had filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against rival Good Technology Inc.

By CBR Staff Writer

Visto is seeking unspecified monetary damages and a permanent injunction Good’s competing push email service, GoodLink, in the US.

Redwood City, California-based Visto claims GoodLink and other Good products infringe on multiple Visto patents.

The disputed technology from Santa Clara, California-based Good powers mobile devices including the Palm Treo, HP’s iPAQ hw6500 and the Motorola MPx220, among others, Visto said.

The lawsuit comes at a time when chief rival Research in Motion Ltd faces a potential US injunction of its wireless BlackBerry device. US patent house NTP Inc is suing RIM in a patent-infringement case that’s set to go back to the courts in February.

There are justifiable marketplace jitters about whether BlackBerry service will be shut down by a federal court next month, said Visto CEO Brian Bogosian, in a statement.

Good Technology, like other late entrants to this market, has no patents directed to wireless e-mail and very clearly infringes on our long-held intellectual property.
