Visionics Corp, the facial recognition technology provider, is at the forefront of a consortium providing biometric border control to allow daily workers enter Israeli territory. The Jersey City, New Jersey-based firm is joined by French smartcard manufacturer Oberthur, UK-based Recognition Systems which is supplying the hand reader technology and US systems integrator EDS for the ‘Basel’ program.
By focusing on the area from the corners of the eyes to the tip of the nose, the Visionics software can process information faster, enabling guards to accelerate the border entry procedure. FaceIt can search 45 million facial images per minute, although the Basel system will also include hand scanning technology.
