Kowloon, Hong Kong-based Vision Technology Ltd and Digital Media Labs Co have linked up to provide a single-chip MPEG2 decoder useful to PC users who want to convert audio sound boards to fully functional audio and video multimedia boards. According to the companies the single-chip MPEG-2 encoder offers all the compression processing functions of the MPEG2 standard without requiring any additional processing power. The product, claims the company, will enable the creation of low cost high-quality digital images which will lead to a variety of new image processing applications such as video cameras, security controlling and analyzing. The chip encodes broadcast quality, full D1 images (NTSC 720×480 pixel at 30fps, or PAL, at 720×576 pixel at 25fps) in real time. The maximum speed of data encoding is 24 Mbits per second. The motion vector search range, according to the company is plus or minus 50 pixels horizontally and plus or minus 34 pixels vertically.
