Visio Corp, of Seattle, paid $6.7m for the source code and other assets of Boomerang Technology Inc, virtually completing acquisition of the San Diego company. Boomerang’s nine software developers have worked for Visio since January 1 and will form the new San Diego office of the developer of drawing software. Boomerang was created by a group of former Softdesk Inc employees in October to create software compatible with Autodesk Inc’s AutoCAD. Visio will use the technology in a future product, and says the acquisition gives us the opportunity to be much more competitive with Autodesk in the two-dimensional technical drawing market.
