VISHAY BUYS SEMICONDUCTOR BUSINESS FROM TEMIC

Electronic component manufacturer Vishay Intertechnology Inc is buying the semiconductor business unit of German firm Temic Telefunken Microelectronic GmbH. The Malvern, Pennsylvania-based Vishay will hand over $500m for the unit, which employs 6,700 people and projects sales of about $850m for calendar 1997. Last March, Vishay had been looking to acquire the Power Semiconductor division of General Instrument Corp (CI No 3,117).
