VIRUS SOFTWARE PROGRAMS

By CBR Staff Writer

Virus software programs are rapidly assuming plague proportions, and Newsbytes reports that reporters at the Providence Journal Bulletin newspaper were startled by a message Welcome to the Dungeon – beware of this Virus – contact us for vaccination that suddenly leaped up on their screens: the DP staff at the paper isolated and killed the virus before it got into the vital Atex system used in the newsroom, not before the virus destroyed the data on scores of MS-DOS disks; the newspaper said the virus was the brain strain, created by two brothers who run a computer store in Lahore, Pakistan, who told the paper that he wrote the program to track his software, because he feared people were pirating it.
