IBM Corp is expected to announce DOS/VSE 1.3 with virtual channel-to-channel link capability: the announcement, on Tuesday 16, will enable users to switch between partitions and different levels of the operating system, the lack of which has meant that many users have not converted entirely to PR/SM; there will be number of MVS tweaks and a differentiator between the E and S series 3090 machines; sources say that a planned 25% uplift in the top-end ES/9000 CPUs has been postponed, and that the company will hold fire until September when it will announce a 40% kicker; also, rumour has it that there is an eight-way machine up and running in Poughkeepsie, but that is unlikely to be announced before September.
