Vinca Corporation is pushing version 4.1 of its fail-over software for Windows NT, Co-StandbyServer, which enables automatic mirroring of disks on two active servers, each running a full suite of applications, allowing automatic load transfer and data recovery should one server fail. Version 4.1 comes with Advanced Application Modules which support Microsoft Exchange and SQL. The modules provide fail over for core Exchange services such as web access and mail connectors, and allow administrators to manage SQL databases on line. Vinca is bundling its latest version of Co-StandbyServer with an application monitoring tool called Service Monitor. The tool monitors application services for user availability and either restarts or initiates fail-over as necessary. Vinca claims to have increased scanning speed of clustered objects by four and a half times, added support for more clustered objects, automated some administrative tasks and improved interface friendliness. The product ships in March 1999. Vinca also announced that, as part of an expansion drive into Europe, it has opened a headquarters in UK The company already has offices in Frankfurt and Germany. We’ve established ourselves in the US and now we want to focus extensively on developing our European operations, says Susan Richards, International Director of Communications.
