The contract aims to provide 34 police departments throughout the county with the ability to identify suspects and conduct investigations, with plans to expand the program over one to two years to include Viisage’s face recognition technology in a mobile identification system within patrol car units.
Viisage said its FaceExplorer product will enable police officers to match images and computer composites against a networked file of entries in the sheriff department’s digital image databases. The face recognition technology is expected to add security to the arrest process since the system enables police officers to compare a live image of the perpetrator to a stored booking image if there is an existing criminal record.
