Vignette Corp, the Austin, Texas based provider of web content application systems, has started its move into the European market with the opening of a new European office in London. It is pushing the latest version of StoryServer content application system which it announced last month at European users. Vignette has already won a contract with Bertelsman AG in Germany to develop a content system for the BeNet corporate intranet aimed at the company’s senior executives. StoryServer 3.0 builds, manages and delivers applications for corporate internets and intranets. The latest version is XML enabled which lets the client tie in his existing content to the system. Vignette is privately held and was established two years ago with a focus on developing service based commerce rather than electronic commerce systems for sites. In other words, its goal it to get users to keep coming back to sites and to tailor those sites to the method the user is using to access that site. It works with internet back end systems companies such as Open Market Inc and NetGravity to develop full Internet systems that include both transaction management and compelling content for its clients. Its three market sectors include internet publishing, financial services and high technology. Existing customers include Ziff Davis, the Chicago Tribune, Nasdaq, Citibank and JavaSoft.
