Vigil Technologies Inc, the Waltham, Massachusetts-based provider of online intelligence software, said it has closed a $5.5m second round of funding. The cash came from Polaris Venture Capital, Chase Capital Partners and Seed Capital Partners, an affiliate of Softbank Corp. Vigil said it will use the funds to build its marketing, sales and customer support infrastructure, as well as to fund the launch of e-Sense, the company’s initial service offering.
Functioning essentially as an application service provider, Vigil provides online competitive intelligence to clients in high technology and financial services. The flagship e-Sense product is billed as the first web-based service that automatically gathers business intelligence from open internet sources which is tailored to meet a user’s particular business landscape. The product is designed to allow clients to easily monitor information from such places as corporate web sites, newsgroups and online mailing lists.
