Newly-formed ViewCall America began trials of its Webster set- top box with Northern Telecom Ltd last month in Atlanta, Webster gives consumers direct access to the Internet and on-line services via their television sets and is expected to cost under $300 plus nominal monthly fee. ViewCall America of Norcross, Georgia was formed in December and is a subsidiary of Colorocs Information Technology Inc and sister company of London-based ViewCall Europe Ltd (CI No 2,817). Colorocs has taken a 3.5% equity stake in ViewCall Europe Plc. ViewCall America provides a way for interactive services to reach the mass consumer market using the existing telecommunications infrastructure. This could help expand our market base and increase our offerings to our existing user base, said Robert Horne, vice-president of business development at Northern Telecom. ViewCall America is now negotiating partnerships with content providers.
