Social video network startup FightMe has secured $500,000 in seed funding as it exits its beta phase.
The cash is being used by the firm to fully launch in the UK after being founded in 2011, before aiming to launch in America next year.
FightMe is a platform for users to share 30-second videos as well as showcasing their own talents, uploading the results with a specific hashtag, allowing other users to respond with their own efforts.
The video with the most ‘applause’ from the FightMe community makes it to the top of the leader board.
Brands also take advantage of the platform by setting challenges of their own.
The platform exists as a website and mobile app, launched in June.
Joelle Hadfield, co-founder and CEO of FightMe, said: "We are not about meaningless videos we differentiate ourselves from others by providing a space for raw talent and opinion.
"We’re also incredibly excited about the prospect of taking the platform to the US, which we think will be an ideal fit for FightMe.
"We have seen an organic growth in users from the States since the launch of the mobile app this summer – we’ve listened to what our beta users wanted and have used this to help better our understanding of how creative and talented people are now using the web to promote themselves, have fun and share with their networks."
