Verizon Business has entered into a collaboration with Microsoft which will enable businesses employing Microsoft unified communications software for voice calling, conferencing, instant messaging and user availability to combine these capabilities with enhanced voice-calling capabilities of its Voice-over-IP.

Verizon said that the Verizon IP Trunking customers can employ enhanced telephony features and real-time UC desktop applications of Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 across its global IP networks.

Under the collaboration between Microsoft and Verizon Business, companies that integrate Verizon IP Trunking with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 can employ Microsoft unified communications applications across Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks for high-performance application delivery.

In addition, Verizon Business has also entered into a contract with Cisco to offer a new managed service that simplifies the usage of immersive video meetings. The Verizon Immersive Video Conferencing Service for Cisco TelePresence expands its existing portfolio of unified communications and collaboration offerings, from conferencing to unified messaging to video-to-the-desktop and video-to-the-conference room.

The new managed service will run on two Verizon Business Exchanges, which run on Private IP network infrastructure and uses Cisco TelePresence technology. If one exchange is interrupted, the video connection will automatically transfer to the other exchange, Verizon said.

In addition, the new offering also allows customers to take advantage of complete setup and management, including pre-connected and configured video circuits, and provides users the ability to make reservations online or by phone.

Mark Weidick, vice president and general manager of telepresence business unit at Cisco, said: Verizon Business and Cisco are collaborating to bring the future of work to reality with high-quality video Cisco TelePresence collaboration for everyone, everywhere. Intercompany Cisco TelePresence gives organisations the ability to use Cisco TelePresence to meet with key suppliers, customers and partners to drive competitive advantage, faster time to market and better collaboration in their businesses.
