The hosted IM service also will enable companies to enforce communications rules, said Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Verizon Business, a unit of Verizon Communications.
The service comes in two flavors: Enterprise Instant Messaging, which uses Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 for IM within a corporate network; and Managed Public Instant Messaging, for companies that IM systems such as MSN, Yahoo and AOL.
We are making IM a viable tool for the enterprise, while extending our collaboration and communications platform to deliver integrated IP applications with enhanced functionality for end-users, said Verizon Business SVP Ed McGuinness, in a statement.
