Verizon Wireless has rejected reports of a hacker leaking personal data about 300,000 of its customers.
ZDNet had reported earlier that the hacker, who goes by the name "TibitXimer", said that the data was actually Verizon FiOS fiber customers’ information.
According to the hacker, the leaked data includes customers’ serial numbers, names, addresses, date of joining Verizon, account password and phone numbers.
Verizon spokesperson Alberto Canal told Forbes that this hack did not actually happen, and that "The ZDNet story is inaccurate."
"We reported this incident to the authorities when we first learned of it months ago and an investigation was launched," Canal said.
"No Verizon systems were breached, no root access was gained, and this incident impacted a fraction of the number of individuals being reported."
Verizon also reported that it had already warned the potentially affected users in light of the situation.
The firm has also informed law enforcement of the recent report as a follow-up to the initial case.
