Verizon enhances managed mobility portfolio to support tablets

Improves enterprise's mobility programme in mobile device management and security

By CBR Staff Writer

Verizon has introduced enhanced managed mobility portfolio to allow companies to manage and secure their apps on an array of mobile devices used by employees, including their own devices.

The enhanced portfolio provides management and security for both corporate and employee-owned iOS and Android OS (operating system)-based tablets.

In addition, the suite delivers new enterprise application portal that resides on a device and allows mobile workers to obtain required business applications; and consists new anti-virus and firewall capabilities, said the company.

The enhanced portfolio also allows customers to add iOS and Android OS-based tablets to the mix of devices that can be deployed to their workforces.

Verizon said that the managed mobility portfolio leverages on its IP and wireless networks and can be used with any carrier.

The portfolio is designed to improve an enterprise’s mobility programme in four areas: mobile device management and security, inventory and expense management, mobile services enablement platform, and logistics.

Verizon enterprise mobility executive director Carrie Gray said an explosion of mobile devices over the past few years has fundamentally changed the way they work and blurred the line between their personal and professional lives.

"The desire of employees to choose their device has left CIOs and IT departments grappling with how to protect sensitive company data. Verizon is creating an environment for enterprises to unleash business applications, while controlling costs and securing company assets across their mobile carrier environment," Gray said.

Verizon said that the new capabilities are available immediately in the US and are scheduled to be introduced in Europe next month and in Asia-Pacific and Latin America later this year.
