Just days after announcing its OEM deal with Dell Computer Corp (CI No 3,525), Veritas Software Corp has announced a similar deal with Dell rival Compaq Computer Corp, as part of its continued push into the Windows NT server market with its storage management products. The deal covers both technical development and distribution agreements, but not specific products, as the Dell deal does. Compaq and Veritas will extend the application programming interface Veritas has developed for NT disk array management, used in conjunction with its Logical Disk Manager Software, to support Unix and NetWare, so that it can support multi-platform, open systems disk arrays as sold by Compaq. The Tandem and Digital divisions of Compaq have long-standing agreements with Veritas for its equivalent Unix-based logical volume management software, which will also be supported by the APIs. Veritas also announced an OEM deal with Data General Corp for its NT-based NetBackup software line.
