After its agreement with Network Associates Inc (CI No 3,439), and its purchase of SecureIT Inc (CI No 3,446), VeriSign Inc has teamed up with Entegrity Solutions Corp in an attempt to ease the implementation of digital certificates. Under the terms of the agreement, Entegrity’s open architecture, Security Development Platform, will incorporate the Public Key Infrastructure, with VeriSign’s digital certificates. The technology will work on applications running on legacy and client server systems, as well as web-based applications. San Jose, California-based Entegrity, which has recently completed a $6m round of venture capital funding (CI No 3,403), will develop a Registration Authority, under the terms of the agreement. The Registration Authority will be compliant with VeriSign’s OnSite digital certificate system, and will collect user information before communicating with VeriSign’s PKI processing center. VeriSign will then sign and issue digital certificates to customers. At the end of last month, VeriSign struck an agreement with Network Associates to enable OnSite to interoperate with Network Associate’s firewall offering. And just last week, VeriSign paid some $69m to buy internet security operation SecureIT.
