The deal will boost VeriSign’s Intelligent Supply Chain Services and enable it to work closely with leading companies to help them better manage and share data, the company said. R4 customers include apparel giant Levi Strauss & Co, drug distributor McKesson and butter maker Land O’Lakes.

The use of RFID and other data sources is quickly changing the supply chain as companies realize the increased value of real-time visibility from their trading networks, said Mark McLaughlin, a senior vice president, in a statement.

Mountain View, California-based VeriSign said early adopters of RFID are shifting from just complying with industry mandates to a strategic focus on business process improvements.

The deal, which closed yesterday, is expected to be neutral to VeriSign’s earnings per share for 2005. R4 Global has 26 employees in several US offices.
