VeriSign has agreed a deal with eBay to provide verification services for the online auction website. eBay will use VeriSign's Authentication Service Bureau to monitor the information provided by sellers during the website registration process. The Bureau compares the information given with public records, in order to verify the validity of the data.
eBay hopes that the deal will prevent any potential fraudulent transactions as fraudsters will be able to be identified quickly. The verification process will only apply to newly registered sellers and will begin in the US in June. The process be implemented on eBay’s international websites at a later date.
