Verimation Ltd has been adding to its Memo electronic messaging service, incorporating an Electronic Data Interchange facility, as well as a bulletin board for users needing to share information. The Memo/EDI service, part of the Fleet, Hampshire company’s plan to meet all data exchange needs through single pipeline, supports EDI standards including UN/EDIFACT – ISO 9735, UN/GTDI, and ANSI X12. X.435 compliance is achieved via a Memo/X.400 gateway, while external communications gateways provide links to X.400 and SNADS networks. One advantage that the company is pushing is the ability to link Memo/EDI to in-house applications based on its Memo/Forms application. This, it says, enables users to transmit filled-in electronic forms as an EDI message, which can then be processed using applications at a central site. The system is available immediately, and costs UKP19,000. Running under Digital Equipment Corp’s VMS, the Memo/Bulletin Boards service provides hierarchical information sharing facilities enabling users to store, organise, and retrieve information on an enterprise-wide or group basis. It can be used to store Memo messages as well as non-Memo formats such as binary files, graphics, DCE RP/FFT files and other objects. These are stored in shared files which are accessible from the mailbox and message panels. Verimation has announced its first customers for Memo-Bulletin Boards, including General Accident, Friends Provident, Allied Irish Bank, Girobank, Norwich Union, the Post Office and Seeboard. It is available immediately and costs UKP4,200. The company’s final announcement is an alliance which adds to its Groupware offering, and enables the Memo product to be delivered through Comshare Inc’s Commander EIS. The new facility means that users can send and retrieve messages, documents or annotated files while retaining an EIS interface. It is UKP850.
