VeriFone Inc is very optimistic that it will get an export license for its Secure Electronic Transaction products. Roger Bertman, VeriFone general manager and vice-president of Internet commerce, says the company has already received initial approvals and that the US State Department is being reasonable about the export of Secure Electronic Transaction strong encryption. And Netscape Communications Corp says it has a software implementation of the June Secure Electronic Transaction draft rea dy to be plugged into its LivePayment merchant framework. However Andres Espineira, Netscape’s director of product marketing for commercial applications, says the company will release it to customers before the end of the year. The current code is being used internally to test Live-Payment’s modular architecture.
