Four Seasons Software Inc of Edison, New Jersey makes no bones about it: the developer of the SuperNova client-server development environment, is the world leader in open applications development solutions for multi-vendor enterprise computing environments, and the Dutch-born company – it started out in Bilthoven, the Netherlands and still has a base there, has raised $5m in venture funding. The syndicate of investment fund groups that managed to hack its way through the undergrowth of verbiage, hyperbole and hype to discover that there was a real business in there, were led on the expedition by Dutch firm Gilde Investment Funds, and included Advanced Technology Ventures of Palo Alto, and Star Ventures of Munich. The cash will enable F our Seasons to expand and strengthen worldwide marketing efforts, particularly in the US.
GlobalCenter Inc, Sunnyvale, California Internet access provider, raised $4m in venture funding from Sequoia Capital and Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. Earlier investors include UUnet Technologies Inc and Global Village Inc. GlobalCenter is billed as more than an Internet provider. They combine powerful, easy-to-use software with superior service and support in a unique business model that’s exactly what organizations need, according to John Hummer, who is a partner at Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and member of the GlobalCenter board.
