Compact Devices Inc, founded in early 1995 to develop and market network servers for CD-ROM, Internet and World Wide Web applications, has raised $2m in venture funding from Benchmark Capital, a leader in early-stage information technology investing. The company has developed an innovative server architecture that provides cost effective, plug-and-play CD-ROM networking in a variety of environments.

Vixel Corp, Broomfield, Colorado, developer and manufacturer of high-speed fibre optic transceiver products raised $11.2m in venture capital in November 1995. In addition to this, 1995 development contract awards raise Vixel’s total government contract awards for funding of product and technology development to over $11m. The capital raised will be used to transition the company from engineering to production. The equity financing was led by the Mayfield Fund and Menlo Ventures. Nissho Electronics, Stanford University, and Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, founders of A&M Records, also invested.

PDF Solutions Inc, Pittsburgh provider of manufacturability simulation and analysis software for the integrated circuit industry, has secured $3.5m in venture financing. Funds will be used to expand application engineering, product development and marketing. Contributors include Telos Venture Partners, US Venture Partners and the Cassin Group.
