American Internet Corp, Bedford, Massachusetts supplier of high performance, highly scalable Internet server software for commercial use in high traffic rapid response environments, has raised $3.5m in venture capital through Cambridge-based Charles River Ventures and Matrix Partners. The new funding will be used to further research and development and to develop its marketing strategy. It was founded in 1995, and its first product, SiteBuilder, which enables users of NetWare environments to create World Wide Web sites in minutes, was on the market for just eight months before it was selected by Novell Inc to provide the core technology for Novell’s own Web server product.
Continuus Software Corp, the independent software development provider formally known as Caseware, has received an additional $4.1m in venture capital financing in a round of funding led by Accel Partners, Advanced Technology Ventures and Brentwood Associates, in cooperation with Norwest Venture Capital, the lead venture investor for Continuus Software. Of the current total investment of $13.8m, approximately $4.0m will go to fund the development of Continuus/CM and PT, a comprehensive suite of change management technologies for software development, and to expand product sales within its Windows and business information systems.
Giga Information Group Inc, Norwell, Massachusetts has secured more than $16m venture funding to provide working capital for the company’s information technology services. Giga Information Group formed by Gartner Group Inc founder Gideon Gartner to provide global information technology advisory service to buyers, suppliers and investors in the computer industry. It has two subsidiaries: BIS Strategic Decisions, the $28m information technology market research firm, and ExperNet, a development-stage private networking firm. The funding was led by Geo Capital, S2 Technology and Montgomery Capital.
