Virtualisation firm Veeam has claimed a "resounding victory" over its patent battle with Symantec.
Symantec had taken legal action against the rival back in February of 2012, claiming that Veeam had "unlawfully leveraged" four separate patents in its backup and replication products.
"This free riding on Symantec is wrong and Symantec has filed these lawsuits to protect its intellectual property," Symantec said in a blog post at the time.
However, Veeam has said today that Symantec has either been forced to dismiss its claims or had them declared invalid by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
"This is a big victory for Veeam. I am pleased with the USPTO rulings," Ratmir Timashev, CEO of Veeam, said.
"This case shows that Veeam will not back down in the face of threats, even when those threats are made by a large company like Symantec,"
The company also announced today that it expects to generate $1bn in annual revenues by 2018, after reporting that total bookings rose by 40% from 2013 to hit $389m in revenues last year.
