Systems development company Cosar Computing Ltd has introduced an integrated management system, Integrated Systems Manager, for Digital Equipment Corp’s VAX machines under the VMS operating system. Rod Jones, sales and marketing manager for the Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire-based company, says that there has been a dearth of systems management software to support DEC systems as they reached up into the higher ground of the mainframe world. Integrated Systems Manager is a series of flexible environments comprising seven modules: environment manager, entity management, computer assisted business solutions management, user management, systems and operations management, and security management. Cosar claims many benefits for the system, including shorter commissioning periods, reduced running costs, enforced standards through reporting, conformity of standards, automated job scheduling and control and security management. Jones says that 10 copies of the Systems Manager have been sold so far and he is waiting on confirmation of large contract with a leading automotive company. Jones is looking to the ‘hybrid’ VMS/Ultrix or VMS/Unix workstation as Cosar’s market. Integrated Systems Manager costs from UKP2,000 on a baby MicroVAX 3100, rising to UKP50,000 on a VAX 9000, and it is available now.
