Two Mountain View, California security vendors have merged in a move that will enable users to establish an audit trail for online purchases as well as confirming that they are dealing with the merchants they want to. ValiCert Inc will add its message authentication technology to Receipt.comÆs digital receipt software, which binds online buyer and seller with digital signatures on a receipt recording the time and value of a transaction. The two companies each have revenue of less than $10m and were wary of disclosing any details of the merger, which was thought to be a stock-based deal. The new company will be called ValiCert and have 60 customers and a staff of 100. ValiCert says it expects to make significant economies of scale.
