Vadem the privately held San Jose, California manufacturer has launched its Clio device in Asia. The Windows CE-based sub-laptop that is still biger than a palmtop, like the rival Hewlett-Packard Co’s Jornada range, is intended as a traveling companion that allows mobile workers to synchronize with corporate networks, check email and write presentations. The Clio’s color display also doubles as an electronic notepad via CalliGrapher handwriting recognition software. The machine also has synchronization and scheduling software and Microsoft Corp’s ‘pocket’ Office suite and browser. Vadem claims a battery life of 12 hours each charge. The Clio runs on an NEC Corp NEC VR4111 MIPS processor with 16Mb of RAM. It weighs 3.2 pounds , measures 8.75 inches by 11.25 inches and is less than one inch thick. Clio was launched in the US this spring.
