The final technical draft and edit of the V.34, also known as V.Fast standard has been finalised on schedule, says the High Speed Modem Rapporteur Group. According to the chairman of the Group, V.34 is now technically stable, established and imminent, which will ensure completion and approval of the Recommendation at the June 1994 Geneva International Telecommunications Union-T meeting. However, the issue of Intellectual Property Rights could still upset the apple cart; owners of said Rights will collectively require V.34 implementors to incur substantial licence and royalty costs, and a single no vote could kill the June ratification.
