The V.34 (nee V.Fast) Rapporteur group says that it expects to have a complete and stable text for the V.34 Recommendation by its final meeting in Orlando, Florida, next month. The group says that all hurdles have now been overcome, with specific trellis codes and signal formats selected, and most open items in the start-up procedure finalised. If all goes to plan, manufacturers will then incorporate these into their prototypes and test all aspects of the standard, including interoperability, over the next two months. A final mop-up meeting is planned in February to resolve any problems found when manufacturers implement the Recommendation, and to fine-tune it if necessary. Final text for the V.34 Recommendation must be submitted to the International Telecommunications Union by March 1, in which case the formal approval process will be completed by June 1994.
