Uwi.Com, the company that created the forms description language XFDL (CI No 3,476), has announced that XML and Java can now be used together to create smart, secure, legally- binding forms. UWI.Com has built Java support into the 4.1 release of its InternetForms Viewer. Since XML can be used to build platform-independent documents and Java, platform- independent processing, the combination should help organizations trying to built web-based operations like e-commerce. The specific mechanism that makes it work is the UWI.Com’s new InternetForms Function Call Interface (FCI) Java Edition, which integrates Java with InternetForms written in XFDL (Extensible Forms Description Language). Java programs can be embedded into InternetForms to extend the programmatic functions already available in XFDL. The InternetForms FCI Java Edition works within both Sun’s and Microsoft’s Java virtual machines, which is crucial for true cross-platform capability.
