US WEST HANDS OVER CELLULAR BUSINESS TO AIRTOUCH FOR $5BN

US West Media Group Inc is to hand its domestic US NewVector cellular business and its interest in PrimeCo Personal Communications over to wireless specialist AirTouch Communications Inc. The deal which is worth about $5bn, and includes the transfer of $2.2bn debt to AirTouch, which was created when Pacific Telesis Group Inc decided to spin it off.
