US West Inc has confirmed plans to acquire Wometco and Georgia Cable Television (CI No 2,445), paying in new US West shares: the two systems provide service to about 65% of the cable subscribers in the Atlanta metropolitan service area, and the purchase will also include Access Telecommunications Interconnect, which provides competitive telephone services to business customers in the Atlanta area, and Cable Advertising of Metro Atlanta, an advertising insertion business; Access has more than 400 miles of fibre in its business telephone access services network and the systems will be operated by the existing management and some personnel from US West and will use the Time Warner Cable Inc group’s support services and infrastructure.
