US WEST AGREEMENT WITH SOVIET TELECOMMS MINISTRY

US West International Holdings Inc has signed an agreement with the Soviet Union Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications for US West to participate in the financing and operational support of three new international gateway telephone exchanges in Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev, and substantially increase the number of international lines into and out of the Soviet Union; US West will invest about $18m in the project over two years, and will get a share of the revenues generated by calls on the system; installation starts this year with completion set for late next year; the switches are being built in Yugoslavia by Nikola Tesla under licence from L M Ericsson Telefon AB.
