US TOLL-FREE NUMBERS COULD RUN OUT

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions has sent a letter to the FCC warning that 800 and 888 toll-free numbers could run out before the implementation of new 877 resources, which won’t be ready for use until April of 1998. The ATIS says that, based on the increased usage of existing toll-free numbers in August, a conservation plan must be adopted to avoid a costly shortage of functional numbers.
